My students come from low income families with different abilities and interests. However, they all have something in common, they are very competitive when it comes to each other. Unfortunately, with Covid-19 being around the last two years, it has taken a toll on the my students and their math skills. Their math skills and levels have suffered tremendously. It is difficult to engage all of the students at the same time, since they are a diverse group of students. But, I try my best to get every student involved in the lesson we are working on. The students love to work on whiteboards for many reasons. First, they love writing on the boards with markers. They like showing me what they can do on their own- by showing me they understand the concept. This gives them a sense of ownership. Also, they like to compete against their friends to see who has the correct answers in the end. Like I said earlier, Covid-19 has taken a toll on student's education over the last two years. I think if students kept the whiteboards at their seats it would be easier to keep track of who used them and cut down on clean up time and focus more on their education and instruction time.
