During these crazy COVID pandemic times, I'm trying to work hard to make my classroom feel more like home for my students. I have been looking into ways to create a cozy classroom environment that students will love and a space where they can enjoy learning and stay more focused with flexible seating options and more inviting reading/learning spaces.
I have noticed since coming back to in-person learning that my students are having a hard time getting comfortable in their desk chairs making it difficult for them to focus. They are more fidgety and are adjusting and wiggling around in their chairs more often. Having flexible seating options in my classroom will allow them more options to get comfortable and feel more at home in our classroom.
Students in my class last experienced a "typical" classroom setting when they were in Kindergarten. The last 2 years they have become familiar with learning in the comfort of their own homes. They were sitting in comfy computer chairs, on couches with lap desks, kicked back on the floor, in bean bag chairs, or other seating that made them comfortable. They even had the ability to move around and could go from the kitchen table, to the couch, to the floor. They could adjust their seating situation to help them focus in their virtual learning classroom. I would love to be able to provide this same learning environment from them away from home in our classroom.
