In my classroom, I promote a print rich environment by encouraging my students to love reading and read voraciously. My students love books and we celebrate our reading through book talks and book clubs. We have a pretty extensive library and they love it and are very proud of it. They even take care of it by sorting books into genres, authors, and topics. These books are all titles they dream of adding to our library, I can only imagine their faces, the delighted squeals, and the giddiness of opening this box as we look to see what new titles arrived! I honestly feel like this would be a moment they would not soon forget in their school experience. The students would be more than excited to see that someone cared about their interest and funded their library. Reading workshop and choice is a wonderful to raise reading and fill gaps when they are excited and passionate about their book choices. This list will support many students across a very broad range of interests and reading levels. I have also included some reading support supplies that will enable me, as a teacher, to differentiate and meet the needs of all readers by using small groups. I have noticed that since COVID, the gap of reading levels within each ELA classroom seems to be widening. I have a very broad range of reading levels, from beginning readers to multiple grade levels ahead, it is necessary to differentiate materials and lessons to meet the unique strengths and weaknesses of each student. Thank you very much!
