Students in elementary school often have big emotions that they do not know what to do with. My vision is to provide each K4, K5, and first grade classroom with a calm down box. Students will use the tools in this box when they feel upset, overwhelmed, frustrated, or angry to help them get control of their emotions and help them get back to learning. Teachers will use these boxes in their classrooms to help individual students process their emotions in a calm way. I want to provide students with these tools so they can use them to regulate the body and mind and continue to be successful learners. So far this year I have talked with all my students about different strategies they can use to calm down. Since the tools I have discussed are not available to them in their classroom, this project will serve to make the tools available to them at all times.
