Since March 15, 2020, my students have been impacted by the effects of the COVID pandemic. While the start of the 2021-2022 school year began with in-person instruction, students are still frequently placed on COVID protocols which require them to complete distance learning for a given period of time. In an effort to help students connect, whether from home or in person, my school began upgrading the technology in our school. My classroom has been equipped with a Newline Interactive Touch display that can connect wirelessly with an iPad and an Apple TV; unfortunately, the school budget has not been able to fund those items.
I would like to incorporate iPads with an Apple TV into my instructional program in an effort to increase student discourse, flexibility, creativity, and connectivity! Utilizing an iPad with an Apple TV would provide my students the opportunity to interact throughout the lesson (whether the students are attending in person or virtually) while simultaneously increasing the use of technology throughout my instructional program. The iPad allows me to run a Google Meet which can be presented on my Newline Interactive board so that distance learners can be present virtually in the classroom. This allows them to actively be engaged with their fellow peers and me. Using iPad apps, like GoodNotes, I would be able to annotate Google presentations and complete mathematical calculations with my students in real-time. Additionally, an Apple TV provides access to a multitude of educational videos that can enhance my program. Given the technological additions requested would affect my entire program, the impact would be substantial for all of the 8th grade instructional standards (NGSS: MS-PS; MS-LS; MS-ESS).
