  • Breathe for Change

    Funded Jul 13, 2023

This has been the most incredible experience, and even though my training won't be complete until the end of March, I've already incorporated what I've learned into my private sessions and the after school program I do for SEL and sensory processing. My student's look forward to the bear breathing, flower breathing, sun dancing, and butterfly yoga we do and will ask for it when they want to calm down, or wake up. It is integrated into the SEL teaching of the SEED program as strategies they can use to "get into the green zone". Even with only being partially educated in the Breathe for Change program I have made changes to my practice, to my physical therapy sessions, and to my interactions in all parts of my life and work. I look forward to continuing this journey. Thank you so much for your generous donation. Honestly this process has been life changing already and has improved my relationships inside and outside of work.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Margaret

  • Balance and Bounce

    Funded Feb 9, 2022

Thank you for your generous contribution.

The trampoline is an excellent tool for gross motor development, proprioceptive input, and sensory motor regulation. The students utilize the trampoline as a warm up for therapy, to jump out their sillies for sensory motor regulation, and many other uses (such as a wobbly surface for balance activities).

The wooden rocker board is an integral part of my physical therapy practice. In the wobble position I work on weight shifting, balance, and core strengthening. When it's upside down in an excellent part of on obstacle course walking on inclines and declines. It's even used in creative play.”

  • Move to Stabilize

    Funded Feb 23, 2022

Thank you for your generous contribution.

The scooter boards I wanted to order were not available when the donations came in, but I was able to order two smaller scooter boards and a balance beam set that is fantastic. The balance beam set is composed of several hard foam pieces that can be constructed into whatever shape the student's imagination allows. We create balance beams in the form of letters to help with pre-school literacy and letter formation / knowledge while working on their balance and fine motor skills putting the pieces together. We create hurdles to jump or step over. And anything the student's imagination can create.”

  • Wheels for Growth

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for your donation for the scooter and portable tricycle. As an itinerant physical therapist I travel from school to school providing physical therapy to pre-K students who need gross motor support in order to participate with their class.

A scooter and a tricycle is not only an important and fun childhood toy, it is also important for gross motor development.

A scooter promotes single leg standing, weigh shifting, and balance. In incorporates core use and coordination with the pushing leg. It's especially importance for students with muscle strength asymmetries for both standing on the weaker leg and pushing with the weaker leg. Meanwhile they're just having fun and doing activities their peers enjoy.

A tricycle helps to develop bilateral coordination, continuous movement with the pedaling. It is also helpful for children with asymmetries between their left and right side as the strong leg can assist the weaker one. It helps them to develop spatial awareness with steering and navigating their environment.

Thank you so much for helping me support these students achieve their goals!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Margaret

The trampoline and rocker boards will be shared between physical and occupational therapy and will serve multiple purposes in therapy. These toys help to promote improvement in an underdeveloped vestibular system to improve strength, balance and coordination. This will help the children navigate the playground and school building more safely, improve their ability to sit upright and concentrate in class, and help to regulate their emotions. A trampoline can be used for sensory and emotional regulation, it can get the sillies out before sitting down to work that requires more concentration. It helps with skill development like jumping and coordination, for lower extremity strengthening. It increases endurance. The rocker board is great for balance training, helping to develop a vestibular system, weight shifting, brain development, and posture.
