Our students are in dire need of hands on activities that they were not able to do while online learning. We have also found the more that we can help students stay organized the more independent they can be, and that is a great skill in school and life. In our class we have three different grade levels and many different ability levels. We spend a lot of our day in small groups. I need the students to be independent. The magnetic file folders and bins help us do that. I do not have a lot of surface space in my room. I do have a metal cabinet and the folders hang nicely on there. They are filled with many different types of writing paper, graph paper, laminiated information cards that the students can get to when needed. They do not have to wait for the teacher to help them. All of work is done in colored folders and the bins will allow me to see who is done with what. I can look at the bins for each student and see what color is not back in there at independent work time and ask the student if they need help or just need extra time. The manipulatives are well used in our class. But we only have one set, so if it is being used the other student has to wait. With extra sets more students could be working. Sensory objects make great motivators and rewards. The students know they get to take a break if they get their work done. The money and time manipulatives will allow better learning if each student has their own to work with.
