Thank you so much for your generosity to my reading materials project! Your donation to my classroom will help to fuel my students motivation to learn and enthusiasm for reading. We are so grateful and cannot wait to use the new beanbag chairs, book bags, and whisper phones in our classroom everyday!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Santos

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for your compassion and financial support of my first grade ESL students. Your generosity has given me the opportunity to provide small group instruction in my classroom every day, using reliable and age-appropriate materials. I set up the new table and the stools when they arrived after the students had gone home one afternoon, and when the children walked in the following morning they all gasped and cheered! Many exclamations of "look at that!" and "Can we use it today?" were sung out in several languages! Even now, when my students hear it is their turn to rotate to the "Teacher Table" center for English or math instruction, I hear quiet celebrations.
We are also enjoying using our new vocabulary journals! Due to the fact that 100% of my students are either Entering or Emerging English acquisition status, the need for learning Tier I vocabulary words, such as "and" or "with", in addition to grade-level academic vocabulary such as "equation" or "construction" means that we need to record and reference many words each day. These books are the perfect way to interact with and apply new words and sentence structures throughout the day. Our classroom community is very grateful for your contribution to our project. in order to make this possible.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Santos

I teach in a Sheltered English Immersion classroom, where I serve as both a general curriculum and ESL teacher for 30 students. My students are mainly Spanish and Portuguese speakers with heritage from Brazil, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Peru (although we also welcome students from Vietnam, Haiti, and many other countries around the world); all of whom are in the very early stages of English language acquisition. Most of them are from low-income households with hard-working parents and families who are seeking to give their children the best education possible. While the challenge of learning a new language and the customs of a new culture can be overwhelming, especially for 6 and 7 year-olds, my first grade students inspire me everyday with their resilience, effort, grit, and gratitude. I am so honored to educate and engage these children in social/emotional, academic, and linguistic learning!
