A majority of my students struggle with reading. As an educator I see the impact this has on all aspects of their education. To give my students the gift of learning to read and watching the doors it opens for them would mean the world to me. As a special education teacher I see to bridge the learning gap between my students and their grade level, that bridge has to start at the foundation. Being able to physically manipulate reading tools like the alphabet sounds tubs, touch to read blends, and rhyme sorting houses will help my students who learn best by doing. Materials like these aren’t often incorporated into a traditional reading curriculum but will give these learners the boost they need to grasp concepts like beginning sounds, recognizing and reading digraph, and rhyming. By breaking down letters and their sounds, teaching CVC words, and working on comprehension I can build a foundation to help bridge the gap for my students.
