My goal is to provide a calming space for students who are emotionally dysregulated. If my project were funded, I would be able to provide a semi-secluded, calm space where students of all ages can physically/emotionally re-regulate by accessing sensory toys and soft items to help them feel safe and secure. A calming corner will lend to improved academic and behavioral outcomes as research supports that social/emotional learning is an effective method for teaching children self-regulatory skills and, that students who are able to self-regulate have improved behavioral and academic outcomes (McClelland & Cameron, 2011).
