Correspondence Project
Funded Dec 2, 2024It is greatly appreciated that you have donated the books for our 8th grade Core student's correspondence project. With your generous donation, all 8th grade students at Pine Valley, around 300 students, will be able to construct these projects. Within these books, students will be highlighting important lessons that they have learned. Correspondence partners include family members, close friends and teachers that are at least a generation older than our students. Students will also be reflecting on their lives through poetry, a personal narrative and expressing their creativity.
When student received the books, they were inspired and excited! Especially those who have had family members and friends complete this project in the past. Our students are writing incredible poetry. From odes, haiku and limericks and much more. Students are also happy to pave way to their futures receiving guidance with life's trivial moments from their correspondence partners.
Our project will continue through your generous donation. While students will continue to write poetry, a narrative and continue their correspondence with their partners; your donation will allow them to have a book that will be a keepsake for years to come. Thank you so much for your generosity!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Scioscia
Maps Are Not Dead!
Funded Nov 27, 2023Thank you so much for your thoughtful donation to help my students better understand the country that they live in. Every since These maps have been put up in my classroom not only is it allowing me to provide visual local of different events in United States history, but the students are much more engaged with their studies.
When the students first saw these maps, they were amazed how cartography impacts the understanding of all the different events in US history. So far, my students have been engaged with Westward Expansion and the Trails to the West. My students love that they can see the different ways the United States acquired land, the different trails to the west, the Mexican American War and so much more. Our next step is to study the Civil War and the impact slavery has had on the United States.
Again, thank you so much for being so generous with your donation. These maps have definitely made an impact on how my classroom operates and the understanding of United States history for my students.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Scioscia
Reading For Societal Awareness
Funded Nov 13, 2021Thank you so very much for your contribution to allow my students to explore different perspectives in our world. Students in my class, and others, will be able to appreciate the value in books that make them aware of having a classroom mimic society. As an educator, it is important to create an atmosphere of trust and believe the work that we are doing will mimic a microcosm of society.
My students will use your grateful gift as a benefit to their knowledge in a variety of ways. From societal issues, learning from the past and to challenge the future.
Reading "Ground Zero" made me appreciate the impact that this historical event has had on my students. One student in particular noticed that this reading had an impact on me as it was part of my "history." Students need to understand that an event that transpires in every day life can have an effect on them years later. Thank you again for your generosity.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Scioscia
