Many of the NGSS standards involve students creating, analyzing, and manipulating models to explain various phenomenon. With the prior Covid exclusions and virtual learning environment the students have not had many opportunities to work with the concepts in a concrete manner. These kits will provide each student in my seven classes an opportunity to model their thinking, and justify their rationale for topics such as the atom, molecules, ionic and covalent bonding, balancing chemical equations, and more. The density set will provide the students the opportunity to work on cross curricular math skills, inquiry, and using their reasoning and justification skills to develop and identify an unknown quantity. It also helps with other skills such as scientific notation, significant figures, and using various measurement tools to develop skills that will carry to other science classrooms.
