The majority of our school staff is white which inadequately reflects the diversity of our student population. Our students of color deserve to see people in their books that reflect them and inspire them. Our students of color have been struggling this year (racial slurs, aggression, hardship, etc). I would love to have more resources to assist our students of color gain a positive sense of self and continue to build an inclusive, safe environment. I would also love to use these books to read at the classroom level to educate the whole classroom community around the beauty of diversity.
