I am looking to add more hands-on inquiry labs and decor to my classroom that will help my students learn science and be excited to be in the classroom this year. I am working to create the theme in my classroom about traveling, to inspire my students to add adventure to their lives and see how science is relevant in their everyday lives, no matter where they are, all around the world. I ask my students to EXPLORE their curiosity and DISCOVER their passions. We have 7 units that we cover, including: energy, forces, magnets, light waves, earth/moon/sun, natural selection, and evolution. I am hoping to get safety glasses for everyone as our current set is outdated. In our energy unit we focus on how humans can harness their own energy (hand crank flashlight) and in our force and motion unit we explore how forces affect motion and Newton's 3 laws. I am looking to tie the two units together more cohesively using hot wheels and ramps to discuss kinetic energy, potential energy, mass, forces including gravity, and Newton's 3 laws. I believe our light waves unit could be the most impactful, but am looking to add more experiences: diffraction glasses, UV lights and scorpions, glogerm, and sunpaper. Thank you for your support!
