  • Happy and Healthy in First Grade

    Funded Nov 15, 2021

    Thank you so much for your support for our classroom project "Happy and Healthy in First Grade". My students were thrilled when they first saw the materials, especially the games and playground equipment. Whether inside or outdoors, my students are learning teamwork and cooperation as they play together.

    Our new spill-proof water bottles have allowed the students to have fresh water at their desks each day, while protecting books and computers from water damage. The cleaning supplies have been essential, as students eat breakfast, lunch, and snacks in the classroom each day. My students have taken pride and responsibility in cleaning up their own desks, and are enthusiastic taking turns sweeping, mopping, and dusting as well.

    As we approach the end of the school year, I look forward to a new project including additional supplies for June classroom cleaning, as well as materials for extended summer learning.”

So many routines have changed in pandemic times. We eat breakfast and lunch in the classroom, and go through a LOT of cleaning supplies each week. Masks and tissue are always needed, and will be even more during the upcoming cold and flu season. Bye-bye brain fog; in donating to this project, you will be supporting the physical health and academic achievement of my students. Since students can no longer drink from drinking fountains, water bottles will ensure that they stay hydrated throughout the day. Finally, an assortment of playground equipment is not only important for physical fitness, but also fosters the play necessary for first graders to build friendships and learn sportsmanship. As our Wisconsin winter approaches, some of the items can also be used in the classroom on those "indoor recess" days.
