The pandemic has no doubt been tough on students and teachers. Even though students have returned to in-person learning, many students struggle to stay focused in class. In addition, many of my students with IEPs have not been evaluated in nearly two years due to the closure of schools in early 2020. As a result, very little time is spent during my day planning and writing IEPs as I spend more time directly with students helping them to focus on their coursework and evaluate their skills in preparation for their annual IEPs. In addition, to keep students safe, my classroom uses a lot of masks and hand sanitizer.
For this project, a new computer that I can use from home will help me to plan engaging lessons, evaluate student work, write students' annual IEPs, and better communicate with students, families, and colleagues from home. I spend a lot of time working on school from home and my current computer is several years old and is very slow. In addition, at any moment, the threat of COVID-19 could send my students and me back into a distance learning situation. A new computer would be helpful to engage students in synchronous online learning via video if we were to return to online learning.
Because of the threat of COVID-19 in the classroom, my classes go through masks and hand sanitizer quickly. My school has some supplies on hand for use in my class, but we often run out. A supply of masks and hand sanitizer will go far in helping to keep my class safe and prevent students from getting sick and needing to stay home.
I appreciate the time and consideration for my project. Thank you very much!
