More than ever, I am seeing the need for differentiation in my classroom, and the resources I am requesting as a part of my "Theater Design Unit" will create opportunities for just that. COVID-19 literally separated us for so long, and the theater class is a space that thrives on connection. I believe this connection is one of the beautiful things about my subject, but I also know it can be intimidating for some students still developing and exploring certain social emotional skills. COVID-19 halted the development of those skills, and I know that asking some students to stand in front of their peers and perform something for a grade can be scary. My proposed "Theater Design Unit" will create opportunities for students to express themselves in ways that feel safe to them while still achieving standards within my content area. Theater is not simply performing, but designing, crafting, writing, and exploring. My "Theater Design Unit " will provide me with the resources needed to teach new standards and meet students where they are at.

The resources I am requesting will open doors for students to become directors, lighting designers, set designers, costume designers and sound designers. We will learn standards that were impossible before because of our lack of resources, and students will be given the opportunity to learn and shine in new and exciting ways.
