While online learning has provided many families the opportunity to continue their student's education while staying safe at home, it also provides many challenges. One of those challenges is the lack of interactivity and kinesthetic learning, which is vital for students of this level. I am determined to make their first year of school as fun and engaging as possible so that once they transition to a traditional school setting (if applicable), the students will not be behind in understanding how to use manipulatives, typical school supplies, and caring for materials.
These students deserve a learning experience that is just as fulfilling and engaging as if they were in a traditional setting. The items in this project aim to do just that. In addition, given the wide range of economical levels that my school provides, this project makes everything equitable for my students. All students will get their materials in a timely manner and all will have access to the same materials. These materials will be used in whole groups and small groups and will be available for students independently at home for homework and other enrichment activities.
The fantastic thing about this project is that it fulfills many kindergarten ELA and math standards, like W.K.1-3 (Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion/informative/narrative texts); L.K.1-2 (conventions of standard English); K.CC.A.1-3 (know number names and the count sequence); K.CC.B.4-5 (count to tell the number of objects); K.OA.A.1-2 (understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from), to list a few. As mentioned before, this project makes things equitable for my students, so all of them can succeed with the different tools provided.
