  • Tactile Literacy Supports For Those With Visual Impairments

    Funded Dec 31, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to this project! My vision, impaired students really love the variety of tactile books. Some of the books have braille. They helps me with my pre-braille and beginner braille students. Some are tactile by having different types of materials for them to fill with their fingers. Lastly, some are stories of people who have vision impairments. It lets them know that they're not by themselves that there's others who are like them.

Thank you for bringing smiles to my students faces, and knowing that they are learning that there's other ways for them to still be able to read books besides audiobooks. My younger visually impaired students really enjoy these books a lot!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fletcher

  • Technology To Support Students With Visual Impairments

    Funded Dec 14, 2021

Thank you to those who contributed to this project. This iPad has been wonderful with our students visual impairments. Our students are learning how to use the camera to take pictures of their assignments on boards or in small print and make it bigger for them to see the print/objects. They are learning how to use certain Apps that lets them create files and put certain homework assignments in these files. They're learning how to use apps for those with visual payments to let them become independent with their schoolwork and outside of school life. For students who have multiple disabilities that includes having visual impairments, they are able to access educational apps to help them learn.

The students really get excited when I pull the iPad out for our sessions. I so greatly appreciate having this opportunity to be able to use such a device with my visually impaired students. It really helps them work on being independent and feeling like they're just like their other peers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fletcher

Some of our visually impaired students may have an iPad in their home, but are not aware of all the accessibility it can provide for them in a home and work environment. With this device I can do several task trials with my visually impaired students. I would have data to help support their hard work. If they can work with one to help them become more independent, then I can request from the district this particular device for them to get for them to use at home and school environment. This device will help open doors for certain students who may not have the opportunity to be exposed to this type of technology and the functions that it can have for them.
