My students require a wide variety of materials to meet their learning level needs and encourage them to be excited about learning. Some of my students are focusing on learning number sense and letter sounds, while others are writing, reading, and sharing additional facts in the hundreds. For some, this is their first year in a classroom and so social skills are a must. What my students all have in common is a need to learn, build friendships, and have fun at school. Small skill groups in both reading and math are helping to address learning gaps, but they need lots of opportunities to practice these new skills. With the materials I have requested, such as Bingo, puzzles, and math games, my students will practice foundational reading and math skills. They will learn and practice phonemic awareness (letter sounds), decoding words (blending sounds together), and building sentences. They will also learn and practice counting, addition, subtraction, and problem-solving. During play, they will learn how to follow rules, encourage one another, and overcome issues that may develop during social interactions. Most importantly, my students will build relationships, develop new skills, and have fun learning! RF.1.3 - Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. L.1.1 - Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. 1.NBT.A.1 - Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral. 1.OA.C.6 - Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10.
