Help me provide a variety of games, resources, and rewards; for small group activities so students are taught social skills, conflict resolution, and good sports-partnership.
The board games are beneficial to students, the goal- fun, rather than winning or losing. Instead of celebrating and gloating they learn to focus on having fun as a group. We also have opportunities to model, reinforce good behavior, facilitate positive interactions, etc.
Many of the students that come to us for help do not have the means to obtain school supplies on their own. (for example, a backpack, tape, paper, pens, or even a pencil to complete their assignments). Too often this results in the child as having difficulties in school due to embarrassment, low self-esteem, and lack of motivation to excel.
I use games, rewards, and positive affirmations in therapy to have fun and establish a good relationships with my students. Playing games is an activity with which most children and adolescents are familiar, and it helps them relax in our unorthodox therapy session and “open up” with less inhibition.
During the Pandemic, It’s exhausting trying to teach students in person while at the same time instructing other students who are learning from home by video. A scanner allows students to submit written work, graphs, diagrams more easily. It builds self-esteem by having a student create an amazing sketch or drawing, I scan the document and share it with everyone. Monitor student progress though out the year, by comparing growth, creating a slide show or web-site, helps with student documentation, great for meeting with parents.
Lack of supplies from a tape dispenser to rewards, like tech items are essential to all students, so they can have the materials to complete their assignments and keep them motivated about learning.
