My students are experiencing the Accelerated Reading Program as 5th graders for the first time. It's been so fun to watch many of my students fall in love with reading again! My students are tracking how many words they read for the school year. So far this school year, my individual students are ranging from 5,000 words per student to 500,000 words per student! Students are even inspiring each other by filling out Book Recommendations for other students. I am hoping to continue to fuel this excitement for reading throughout the rest of the school year by providing a reading nook with a large rug, flexible seating options, and flashlights to further engage my students. By supporting this project, you would be providing my students with a reading nook that includes an area rug, flexible seating, and flashlights to help continue to fuel their love and motivation for reading. After sitting at a desk for about 7 hours a day this would be a great motivation to my readers to have the opportunity to use some flexible seating options in the classroom to engage in a good book. Our floor is tile, therefore the rug would be used to create an area where students can lay down to read. The flexible seating options could be used around the room giving students the opportunity to move and find a spot for reading. In addition to the rug and seating options, flashlights would provide an engaging way for my students to read with the lights off or on dark, rainy days. Thank you for your consideration in making a positive change in my classroom!
