Fundraising has been around forever. Selling raffle tickets, getting businesses to donate goods, wrapping paper, door to door candy sales, and pies are just a few examples. Recently I asked students what THEY would be willing to buy if there was another group putting on a fundraiser. With great enthusiasm EVERY class brought up “Spirit Gear” and “Decals” for their HydroFlasks. With resounding intensity almost every STUDENT agreed. I then asked what they would be willing to pay for a pair of Spirit Socks or a school spirit decal. “Up to ten dollars” was the general consensus. After some research and cost analysis on materials and supplies we learned that students could earn 60-80% on the sale of custom items that would go towards travel and entry fees for competitions.
HOSA is an educational platform focused on the Health Sciences geared toward competitive skills and knowledge based events.
There is a wide range of competitive events from Medical Spelling, Math & Reading, CPR & First Aid, Clinical Nursing, Health Care Career Research to Photography, Forensic Science, and Zoology. Students learn to relate principles of their learning topic as well as demonstrate their knowledge of the content and skills required within their related field.
With the Cricut Maker 3 my students will be able to create and design customized apparel and accessories to sell and earn money for travel expenses to compete at the state and national levels for HOSA. With the financial pressure taken off their shoulders my students will be able to focus their attention studying, practicing, and preparing for their competitive events.
(All Nevada Academic Content Standards for Health Science 1 & 2 are incorporated into HOSA learning. Students main source of education is through their regular classes - A&P, Medical Terminology, Medical Assisting, & Sports Medicine)
