Rules Can Be Fun
Funded Nov 9, 2021Thank you so much for your generous contribution. Reading Rules was a big hit with my class. We averaged reading 20-30 pages each class and came in ready to talk about what we read - from opinions on the characters and plot to discussing predictions of what was coming next. Rules also led to really great conversations about what it's like to live with autism and to love someone who has autism.
One character from the book has cerebral palsy, is non verbal, and must communicate with picture cards. To discuss this topic, my students created their own picture cards and practiced communicating solely with them. The students really enjoyed this activity as it gave them the opportunity to experience life from a different perspective.
This experience brought the students together with shared purpose and common understanding. They were able to bond and represent our student body with pride empathy. We appreciate all that you have done to make this dream, thought and idea come true to us, our peers and our community.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Fredericks
When Stars Are Scattered
Funded Nov 30, 2021Thank you so much for your generous donation. My students will be so thrilled to read this graphic novel. I truly hope it will expand their worldview and let them explore the immigrant experience in America. As immigrants or children of immigrants themselves, my students will really benefit from reading about struggles like their own.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Fredericks
