Efficiency Builds First Robotics Competition Students' Inspiration

Funded Nov 10, 2021

From the moment the new items arrived, our team was excited. This began before the new materials were unwrapped or put together. The Oscats were creating new items with the packaging itself. Then, they began putting together the items, and it catapulted their success. The new items helped make their ideas come to life.

During the build season, the bandsaw helped students make precision cuts in metal, the impact driver not only allowed multiple people to work at once, but the added power taught the team a lot about power and torque. The arbor press allowed team members to switch between active and passive axels as they tested intake mechanisms. These devices allowed the team members to take on more of an active role in designing, building, and troubleshooting the robot than they had in the past. They tested their designs and modified them to create a functional robot.

Our main goal this season was to build a successful climber. We accomplished this, and not only did we climb in every event we entered, we were able to use that climber to inspire other students to join the Oscats. After the season was over, the team created a game in which the public drove the current and previous year's robot in a mini competition against one another.

At our events, the chairs helped us immensely. From retaining focus during computer problems to fixing our elevator once it broke, or just offering a place to relax in the midst of a long competition, the chairs offered necessary respite in the midst of challenging and rewarding weekends.

All of this was due to your donations. Your contribution not only strengthened our team, it inspired us.”

With gratitude,

Mr. Roth-Ritchie
