Our class is currently working on supporting claims with factual evidence. Students have been introduced to the writing process and the steps needed to craft colorful writing. Since we are in the generation of emojis and abbreviations, students are struggling with proper grammar. Being off for 16 months did not help, with all of the google meets, jam boards and digital learning. The materials orders will be used to positively reward students for not giving up on the writing process. We will also use some of the materials for cooperative learning groups. During this time we discuss social and emotional issues either selected by the teacher or student choice. Students will benefit on multiple levels, socially, emotionally and academically. I joke and tell my students, the only way to be a better writer is to write. I hardly get any laughs, but they persevere and continue writing. While writing and academics should be reward enough, small tokens of a teacher's appreciation go a long way. W.3.1 Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons W.3.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
