Many students and parents feel that science and technology access such as coding and computer programming is just out of their reach, especially my students. Our students have very limited experiences with science and technology. Three years ago, I wrote a grant for 16 robots however, the batteries no longer work after being in storage for the duration of COVID. Our school does not have these items available for students. We are very isolated and it is difficult for us to take students anywhere to immerse them in these types of experiences. I have taught in this district for over 15 years and it was only last year that we purchased a science curriculum. It is my hope to use these materials to bring science and math experiences into our classroom, allowing students to work together to solve challenges. The goal of this project is to actively engage all of my students in the process of problem solving through STEM activities such as computer coding with robots. Students will be working together to use logic and vigorously problem solve. Not only will they be learning valuable & life long academic skills, they will also be using needed social skills which have been a struggle for many students as a result of the pandemic. By offering these activities, hopefully student attendance will increase as well.
