The use of technology in the library is becoming increasingly important. In order for students to better explore and utilize the library resources, there is a need for additional devices. The library homepage is where students explore the extensive catalog of books. They can search by subject, author, genre or reading level. The ability to navigate the library catalog, which is exclusively online, allows students to find books that interest them quickly. By instructing students on how to use our catalog and website I can also better manage my library classes. Students can search for their books without my constant assistance. Once instructed on how to navigate the Destiny library system these students can use this in any library in Washoe County and in many libraries around the country. My library homepage also has access to the statewide research databases. In the library, I instruct and support good research habits using reliable online resources. I also teach lessons on digital citizenship. In addition to technology, I have also included books about technology, digital citizenship and social-emotional growth. K.IC.C.1 Understand how computing devices have changed people’s lives. 1.IC.SI.1 Work respectfully and responsibly with others online. 2.DC.C.1 Make responsible decisions – grounded in knowledge of digital safety and security best practices. 5.KC.B.1 Explain the importance of using more than one source and recognize possible bias in digital resources. ELA 3.7. Conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic.
