I am hard-pressed to get my students to do anything but read...what an amazing problem to have! They students are "hooked" into this text. We've researched addiction, psychology, rehabilitation, anger management....a host of topics relevant to the text and my students (and we are only in chapter 5). The students have followed the author on Twitter and are asking me if I can get him to visit or Skype into my classroom. Thank you more than I can truly express for helping me bring relevant, current literature into my classroom!”

WOW! Thank you so much for the wealth of supplies included in this project! Students were in awe of the amount of items purchased and have already been putting the items to good use. We have created graffiti boards for a text in one of my classes - for which the students used the glue sticks and pens. All of my classes are already using the tissues and hand sanitizer to try to prevent the spread of Flu and Strep - two winter bugs we are already seeing. One of my classes is using the white board markers at our collaborative table to plan out their action research projects. They will be using the folders provided to gather and organize their information as they build their papers. These are all supplies I would have paid for out of my own pocket had not you been generous...thank you!”

I cannot thank you enough for your generosity! The first time I put the Boogie Boards into the hands of my At-risk/Dropout Prevention students, they were awed. They immediately took out the stylus and began to doodle. Once they got accustomed to the tools, we completed a structured class activity. The students were put into groups and assigned a chapter from our current text. Each student had to read the chapter, then use the Boogie Board to note a powerful piece of text evidence that summarizes the theme of the chapter, as well as draw an accompanying image. As noted from their body posture, they were concentrating very carefully on their work. They then passed the Boogie Boards through the other groups to share the content of each chapter with their classmates. Not a single student opted not to participate...as regularly happens with class discussion or think-pair-share assignments.
Since the Boogie Board comes with an app that I can use to capture their creations, the students have asked to put together a graffiti book from the text that we can tweet to the author. They came up with this idea themselves and have already begun planning the pages!”

A free online program is available to my students to help them identify their reading strengths and weaknesses, then build growth. Many of my at-risk students have grown from 3rd and 4th grade reading levels to 8th and 9th. I currently do not have enough Chromebooks for each student to be able to work each day. If I can see these results when the students have to take turns, imagine what we could accomplish if each student were able to work consistently!
With availability of technology comes the access to growth and success that many of these students do not have otherwise. The Chromebooks are perfect for providing a secure environment for my students equitably access educational tools. By having enough Chromebooks for all students to work at the same time, I can differentiate my instruction without embarrassing students. For example, I can used leveled Lexile programs for each student to meet them where they are - without the embarrassment of one student having an easier passage. I can teach digital citizenship and responsibility. I can open up the world through online museums and webquests for students who may never have the chance to travel. I can help these students grow!
