After a year and a half of attending school virtually rather than in person, many of my students are struggling with social skills, attendance, and behaving in class since they were used to being online and not having to interact with others. By rewarding students that exhibit positive behaviors in the classroom, I am guiding my students to be effective citizens in our community. My project includes a variety of items to used as incentive prizes that students will earn by exhibiting proper behavior. I chose prizes that students currently enjoy such as fidget toys, fun pens, mini rubix cubes, squishy toys, post-its, and lanyards to use with their school ID. The storage baskets provided through this project will help me keep these materials organized so students can select their prizes quickly. The chair and standing desk would be used as flexible seating options for students who are modeling good behavior. This will give students the opportunity to be leaders in the classroom and continue to model appropriate behavior to their peers. The Nevada Content Standards that will be implemented are reading literature RL 7.2 through 7.6 and writing W 7.1 through 7.10. My students struggle with reading at grade level. By offering these incentives, I hope to motivate them to participate in class and behave appropriately throughout my lessons in order to focus on learning. This project would also address the NEPF, Standard 4.3. (STANDARD 4 Students Engage in Metacognitive Activity to Increase Understanding of and Responsibility for Their Own Learning: Indicator 3 Teacher supports all students to take actions based on the students’ own self-monitoring processes.)
