Students will be using these materials to design and construct a balloon powered car to learn and apply their knowledge about forces and energy. This project based unit will have students engaging in the engineering design process where they test and evaluate different car designs. This project will support the following NGSS science standards: MS-PS3-1, MS-PS3-2, MS-PS3-5, MS-PS2-1, MS-PS2-2, MS-ETS1-1, MS-ETS1-2, MS-ETS1-3. Students will also be engaging in building literacy skills by conducting research and communicating their findings in writing and discussion. Students will have to analyze grade level texts to find helpful information that will assist in their designs. At the end of the unit, students will be writing informative texts where they share their findings and reflect on what they learned. Student groups will also have the opportunity to share their findings with the school community. This will support the following ELA standards: R1.8.1, R1.8.2, W.8.2, W.8.4, W.8.7, SL.8.1. Gamers club will be using the 3D printers to create their own characters. I am looking forward to empowering all of my learners by allowing them to make.
