The resources selected to support Shared Ideas Mathematics Discourse project will assist students to demonstrate all Mathematics Domains, Mathematics Practices, and Learning Standards. I feel the COVID-related learning will be addressed through providing routine and rituals within the Math Workshop. I hope to be able to combat COVID issues by providing small group instruction, academic feedback, and deepening students' thinking by asking the right questions.
With the necessary tools, students will independently become confident and motivated to engage in mathematics discourse.
Within the Math Workshop, students will have the opportunity to rotate to various math stations. However, it is important for the learning environment to be organized with the 3 Tier Rolling Metal Storage Organizers. All workshop material will be positioned next to the stations for students to access their mathematics materials. The following materials that will be placed into the organizers are Expo Dry Erase Markers, Multi-Function Electronic Timer, and a 8 Digit Pocket Calculator. For example, students will be able to work on file folder Equation Sorting activities that require collaboration with their peers. As well as, model their thinking using the IPEVP Do-Cam with a larger group.
My instructional standard will focus on Standard 3 which states, "Students Engage in Meaning-Making through Discourse and Other Strategies." One of the best ways my students can demonstrate discourse is through 7.G which allows students to draw, construct, and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationship between them. This will offer meaningful visual solutions that encourage students to observe, analyze, justify, and explain their strategies to peers. We can help students get back on track and retain mathematics content through discourse. As well as find the joy and love for learning math.
