  • Toliver's Secret Novel Study

    Funded Aug 3, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. This was my first year using Toliver's Secret as a novel study, and it was so much fun! My students thoroughly enjoyed the book and learning more about the American Revolution.

The main character, Toliver, learned so many valuable lessons as she set out on her journey to deliver a secret message to General Washington. My students were able to watch her character evolve throughout the story and see the importance of never giving up.

It was truly an amazing book and an awesome time of learning in my classroom. Without your generous donation, this would not have been possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kesler

  • Creativity in the Classroom: Living Wax Musuem

    Funded Oct 3, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom library. Through your giving, my students have had the opportunity learn more about the lives of the people who have had a positive influence on our world today.

After reading their selected book, my students participate in a Living Wax Museum where they will dress as their influential person and share their important life events as visitors walk around and tour the different exhibits.

This is such a fun activity that we do each year, and it has been made possible thanks to generous donors like you! My students and I appreciate you supporting our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kesler

  • Help Diversify My Classroom Library

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom! My students have really enjoyed the new books that were added to our classroom library. My students are currently working in their small groups to learn more about natural disasters. To aid in this learning, they are reading the different I Survived books based on natural disasters and conducting researching. Their research will help them with the informational writing essays that they will be constructing over the few weeks. It has been great to see them actively engaged in their books and wanting to continue reading more.

The Who Was series books that were donated to our classroom will be used later on in the school year. My students will choose an influential person and will be using these books to help them with our Living Wax Museum project. My students are aware of the upcoming project and are so excited to get started. Included in this letter, you will find pictures from last year's Living Wax Museum.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kesler

  • "The One and Only Ivan" Literature Circle Books

    Funded Dec 14, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation of books to my classroom. While reading The One and Only Ivan, my students were able to construct opinion writing pieces on whether animals should be kept in the zoos or be free in the wild. My students had the opportunity to dig deeper as they researched the effects of animals free in the wild and animals kept in zoos. It was amazing to hear the meaningful conversations that they were having with their classmates regarding this topic. They were able to see the different viewpoints and many of them even changed their opinions by the end of our novel study. My students were engaged throughout our entire novel study, and many of them said that it was the best book that they had ever read. Without your generous donation, this would not have been possible. Thank you so much!”

  • "I Survived" Series- Literature Circle Books

    Funded Nov 14, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom. With your donation, my students had the opportunity research a historical event based on a natural disaster. My students thoroughly enjoyed reading their "I Survived" book and learning about their chosen topic. My students LOVED being able to choose the natural disaster that they were most interested in and learning more about it.

Through our literature circles, my students were able to dig deeper and learn more about figurative language, vocabulary using context clues, text structure, and basing their answers with evidence from the text.

After reading their assigned book, my students were eager to read even more "I Survived" books. I have enjoyed seeing their love for reading grow, and I have you to thank for that!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kesler

My students have recently become interested in the "I Survived" series of books. My students will engage with their group members as they read and research their natural disaster. My students are more engaged when they are given the opportunity to choose the material that is being read. My students will be given the option to choose the book that is most interesting to them, then they will write an informational essay describing the events that took place during the natural disaster. I have seen that positive impact that these books can have on my students wanting to read, and I hope that this will give them the opportunity to grove even more!
