Pre-Algebra has a heavy focus in understanding functional relationships. Nevada Academic Content Standard 8.F.B.4 states "Students will be able to construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from the description of a relationship or from two (x,y) values, including reading these from a table or graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or table of values. By allowing students to have access to whiteboards and markers, they are able to graph and compare functions, on both the table and graph form. They can use these whiteboards at home or in class to compare them, to other classmates as well. Sometimes in low income families, students may not have access to simple things, that many students take for granted, things such as pencils and pens. My project would help these students get these materials, which they are able to use in order to eliminate factors that are out of their control, that may hinder their learning.
