The items and resources listed in this project will help my students access general education curriculum in a safe, individualized fashion. With the ongoing pandemic, it is imperative that we start adapting our classrooms to fit the COVID safety guidelines and policies. Along with the safety protocols, all of these students are experiencing huge academic gaps and deficits from the time spent at home. My students need unique, individualized tools to help get them caught up and achieving their goals. The students I service will benefit from the use of sensory items that are listed. Students need hands-on, tactile experiences in the classroom during instruction to help develop meaningful connections to content. My students are focusing on Nevada Content Standards RF.K.1d Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet and standard RF.K.2 Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). It is vital that students learn the foundational skills of letter recognition and letter sound. These skills develop the consequent skills that will encourage kids to be great readers. All students need a level of differentiation to instruction and many of the sensory items listed will help my students access the curriculum in their own, individual way.
