The creative space with which students hold is that which needs nurturing so they are able to express their learning using the educational tools we can give. My students have a great sense of humor, are always energetic, and are willing to participate in the activities (especially if it means they can have fun)! Students who have advanced to higher grade levels always stop by to share what they learned, what they miss, and what they look forward to completing, often complimenting their previous immersive literary lessons we’ve experienced in my classroom as frames of reference in their new classes. When we read literature, I turn the classroom into a stage set so that each part of the room is fit for the settings, themes, character development, and literary analysis. This helps the unique ways in which students learn to experience literature as if they are living or giving life to the text. There will be music, costumes, changing of the desks, sound effects, and deep, through analysis that challenges the students to understand, for example, Shakespeare’s language and make connections with the universal message of the text.
