My students would benefit from DNA model kits by constructing and analyzing their own models. This activity would appropriately align with HS-LS3-1. and LS1.A of the Next Generation Science standards. Students have not had the opportunity to complete hands on activities for the last 18 months due to Covid-19 restrictions. These modeling kits would provide students with the opportunity to build models safely. Since the kits are made of plastic, they can easily be sanitized between classes and still provide students with a meaningful learning experience. My students have been deprived of engaging activities that incorporate critical thinking, rigor, and inquiry. They would love to have the opportunity to build individual models or work in small groups to build an accurate representation of DNA. They will learn about the structure and function of DNA by utilizing questioning and critical thinking skills. Students enjoy learning about DNA because it is relevant to their lives. These model kits will provide students with a fun and engaging activity they will remember for years.
