Thank you for all your support! The sixth grade writing students have been able to use all the materials this year in order to enhance their learning experience! One of our projects this year is a mock trial unit, revolving around articles and information about the Titanic. Because we were working on argumentative writing, the students had to act as lawyers, and annotate different sources to defend their client.
They were able to use the highlighters, pen, erasers, sticky notes, and stickers to organize their argument in a coherent paragraph. Students specifically enjoyed using the highlighters to color code their evidence to better defend their case! The mock trial was one of their favorite projects of the year, and it could not have been such a wonderful experience without your help!

This classroom project was brought to life by Nevada Department of Education.

These resources will help students keep their writing notebooks and annotating tools in class for easy access. The standard we are focused on this quarter is: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.1: Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence. Students need to learn organizational skills in order to properly annotate and find relevant evidence that will help them state their claim. Each material donated will be used to enhance student engagement and understanding! My 6th graders will use the highlighters to annotate their article, white boards and markers for review, sketch books for graphic organizing topic sentences and main ideas, and colored pencils for color coding their writing notebooks. Argumentative writing is such a significant part of their education and each material will serve a proper purpose for enhancing their writing.
