Students learn in multiple ways but often do not have the ability to use tactile materials. Students with special needs thrive with the use of visual and tactile supplies. Furthermore, students who have the inability to stay still and demonstrate fidgety behaviors can benefit from the use of flexible seating. The use of flexible seating provides student with ability to focus while letting out some of the energy they have stored within their bodies. I have let students have a choice in their seating and have seen an increase in engagement and participation. My students are eager to learn but without the proper resources, they often lack the ability to focus and manage their emotions. Special Education students need movement and flexible seating assists them to wobble, rock, bounce, which increases oxygen to the brain. In addition, concepts such as math facts, word decoding, composing sentences, and phonics can be abstract ideas, especially for students with autism. The products that I selected will aid me in breaking down the concepts visually and are hands-on to keep them eager to learn. In addition, some of my students struggle with muscle dexterity, which is where items like raised line paper, pencil grips, and wobble cushions can aid in strengthening their hands, fingers, and core. All these items will enhance my environment and can transition into their General Education setting as well to promote and enhance focus in all settings.
