These resources will promote Nevada Academic Content Standards and fulfill a COVID-related learning need in my classroom in many different ways. With freshmen in my classroom, they missed essential social skills development and one of the best ways to help them gain back some of that ground is to give them the opportunity to express themselves in the classroom while also learning about their peers. Since returning to the building, I have been trying to engage my students as much as possible. This project's key goal will be to help them build confidence in themselves, each other, and their writing skills post-pandemic. My goal as a teacher is to acknowledge that every student in my class has a story and that every story matters. I have decided to combine my mission into a "getting to know one another better" project that gives them the opportunity to not only form and build new bonds but also build pride in who they are. My classroom is a place where kids can be themselves and work together, this project will encourage them to do both of these things while also reinforcing English as they write each piece of the multi-genre project. A multi-genre project is a project that requires students to write 5 different forms of literature about the same topic, in this case, their stories. All these materials including the construction paper, lined paper, colorful pens, and writing utensils will help my students express themselves in the most accurate way possible, without anything holding them back. This directly correlates to ELA W.9-10.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through effective selection, organization, and analysis.
