Thank you so much for providing me with the resources to ensure that my students have the ability to meet their potential! Snacks are such a simple way to support and improve student motivation and concentration! My students and I are very grateful for your generosity and kindness! You rock!”

  • Snack Attack to Fight Low Energy!

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

Snacks are without a doubt a huge need for high school students! I was able to provide my students and others with a healthy snack for an entire semester. Students would come by and pick up a snack before heading to their classes. It was obvious that they were in need of a pick-me-up and the snacks provided them that needed boost! Particularly in my class, I noticed that the students were more likley to be alert and enagage if they had a snack.

This semester, I have several students who were used to putting their heads down during class. Especially after lunch or during the last period of the school day, students were prone to nodding off. One student always complained of feeling drained and hungry even after school lunch. As soon as I started to hand her a snack before the start of class I noticed a noticeable shift in how she was more aware and alert. She became one of my go-to students for participating in class activities and I know a large part of her energy came from a simple snack.

High school students are developing and require so much fuel to energize their growing bodies. A small snack may seem insignificant but in the case of my students it really is the difference between dozing off in class or exercising their academic potential.”

  • Fighting Period Product Poverty!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

I am overjoyed to know that there are generous folks out there who want to see students worry about one less thing as they navigate being a high schooler! Access to period products should be a no-brainer especially for our students! Thank you once again for your support and contribution!”

  • Building the Classroom Library of My Students' Dreams

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

The books purchased through your donations were the start to building the class library of my students' dreams! Independent reading is a significant part of our curriculum and students are tasked with selecting a book of their choice to read and provide regular summaries as they make progress on it. Not only that but students are also asked to create a brief presentation to share with the class on their book selection; this functions as a book review and recommendation of sorts. Prior to receiving your donation, students had a very small and uninspiring collection of texts to choose from in our classroom. I encouraged many of them to look to the public library's apps to access a wider range of genres and titles. However, many students lamented the lack of a physical book option.

As soon as the packages arrived, students gathered around (I was ecstatic myself) and helped open boxed. They marveled at the various titles and covers. There were so many books and they all looked interesting. Immediately students began picking their next independent reading book. Even some of my more reluctant readers were intrigued enough by the graphic novel and manga options! During our next class independent reading time, I saw so many students with a book provided through your generous donation in their hands. My reluctant readers were especially invested in the graphic novel and manga titles and reading! It was a sight to behold.

Reading is integral to education and I believe imparting a love for reading is one of my goals as an English teacher. Your donations have made that goal even more realistic and possible. Students now have a variety of texts to spark that interest and love for reading and books!”

  • Snacks to Boost Student Performance and Productivity!

    Funded Nov 24, 2021

The snacks were a HUGE hit with students! Word got around quickly that any hungry students could come to my room and be given a snack before or after classes. I noticed my students (especially in the early mornings and late afternoons) were much more alert after eating a snack! I saw fewer sleepy heads in the morning and fewer students nodding off in the afternoons. Just as I suspected, student productivity is affected by hunger!

I had one student in particular who always put his head down during the last block of the day. He frequently complained that he was tired and hungry. Once I received the snack packs, I began to provide him with a snack earlier in the day before he arrived at my class. I immediately noticed him perk up and be more engaged in the work and class discussions in a way that I did not know was possible!

We are well aware that food is integral to all of us functioning normally. With high school students that need is even greater as they are developing and participating in a range of activities. The simple act of providing a student with a snack had and continues to have a profound impact on the lives and academic potential of the students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bocanegra

My high school students go through an entire school day, often staying after school to work on extracurriculars, without eating anything. The snacks I requested will help my students. Especially because high school students require more fuel to support their healthy development, I want to make sure I provide opportunities to nourish their body and their mind. I have found that students focus better after having a snack. Providing them a snack, especially early in the morning, will help energize and help them with concentration as they focus on their lesson and tasks!
