Reading an Inspirational Story is an Open Door to Wonder!
Funded Oct 3, 2024When learning a language, reading becomes an essential part of the process. With a book, students can learn to analyze literary elements, while improving their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. However, learning a second language involves not only formal aspects of a story, but is also an open door to explore culture, history and values.
That is why we, my students and I, are so grateful for your donation. Frida, el misterio del pavo real y yo, is helping us read in an interactive and dynamic environment, because literature has the magic of words and the magic of adventure. By reading this story, children have the opportunity to create works of art by imagining the main characters, learn new words like "gabardina," investigate the life and paintings of Frida Kahlo, discover that "churros" are a delicious food, or find personal connections to their parents' cultures.
There is nothing like using your imagination, and allowing children to dream while trying to solve a mystery. For all that, I thank you again for your donation, for making a difference.”

Funded Apr 6, 2023As teachers, we want to be sure our students receive the best education possible, and we do our best effort to reach this goal. With the support of people like you, we can enrich and make their experiences at school more effective, more purposeful, and more positive.
That is why your donation is so important, because it changes our educational environment by increasing the opportunities to learn and grow. The dictionaries that you donated have become my best friend in class. The students have access to the dictionaries all the time, as they need, and they are thankful for it, as they can explore by themselves the world of languages and become more independent. Moreover, they are learning how to use them effectively in testing outside my classroom, as some of them, as ESOL students, have available the usage of a bilingual dictionary as an accommodation during state-standardized testing.
I also tried to give opportunities to find joy while practicing the use of a dictionary. I use to plan games that involves looking for a specific list of words in a period of time, and the faster students received a prize. As they advance in their knowledge of using the dictionary, I have increased the complexity of the game, by asking not only the page number, but also the grammatical category or other elements. The excitement for the game helps me deepen their knowledge and proficiency while having fun. And their faces´ happiness is the best prize we remember at the end of the day.
So thank you for your support. It changes our dynamic as a class and it is making a really important impact in our students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Gonzalez
