The new school year that began this August has been challenging. I just want to make sure that the students don't need to worry about basic supplies. Organization is the key to success in any facet of life. My students have three classes each day in three different locations. They are not allowed to bring backpacks to school and no one is allowed to use a locker, but they still need to keep everything for all their classes. Even having a binder, their papers still seem to get lost. Zipper binders are a great tool to help students get organized and keep them from losing their school supplies and important papers especially with the continued restrictions that are in place this fall due to Covid-19. In 2017, WCSD adopted SEL (social emotional learning) standards approved by the state of Nevada. The standards on self management and responsible decision making skills are both addressed by this project. These standards teach the students how to monitor and achieve behaviors related to school and life success as well as how to maintain accountable behaviors in school, personal, and community contexts. (SEL 2C and 5C) Many of my students can't afford to purchase these types of binders and so this project will allow me to help some of my more disorganized students become more successful in school. Ultimately, I would like to be able to give each student on my team that wants one a zipper binder.
