In order to promote a lifelong love for reading, it is vital to build our student's confidence as emerging bilingual readers. As an educator I want to encourage my students to enjoy reading. I want them to understand the importance of building upon their foundational reading skills. As a Dual Immersion teacher it is crucial for my students to be exposed to different texts in Spanish and English. Therefore, my classroom will need more Spanish books in order to meet the goal of students being immersed in books they CAN and DESIRE to read. Right now, my classroom is EXTREMELY limited in the amount of Spanish books we have. We constantly share the same books over and over or photocopy downloaded books from the Internet in black and white ink. My students deserve to be immersed in a variety of texts that contain beautiful and colorful illustrations. I need more books to make this happen and you can help!
