A student who can't tell what is going on around them cannot learn. They are overwhelmed and can easily shut down. By providing supportive sensory input, we can help students be in a better mindset to take in information and learn. Many of the items on on this project support a students' sensory processing abilities. Vibrating input (star teether and vibrating pillow) helps students organize their behavior and self-regulate so they can complete classwork. The intense physical input provided through the whole body vibration plate will help a child feel grounded and able to feel their body so that they do not feel so overwhelmed or "floaty" in the classroom. ( I request two of these because I work at multiple sites and would like the students at my schools to have access at all times, even when I am not at that school. It also saves me from having to carry it between schools.) I will use the visual perceptual games, ping pong ball trainer, colored overlays, penlights, and educational books to help support students' visual skills: tracking and visual perceptual skills, necessary to learn to read or follow the teacher with their eyes. How many times have I said, "If I only had funding, I would buy this for my student?" Students with and without disabilities are struggling to reenter school after the pandemic. These tools will help my students to self regulate and access their education. Since my students are of all grades and levels, we will be working towards Nevada core standards across the board. The majority of my students need support to achieve success with writing, cutting, drawing, sitting, remaining calm and understanding what is going on inside and outside their bodies.
