The padded over-ear headphones make it possible for students to access text-to-speech features, eliminating background noise and distractions for each student and allowing them access to the grade-level text. Many of our students can more easily understand a text by listening while reading. Furthermore, access to a microphone will allow students to more easily show their learning or understanding through the use of speech-to-text features. They will speak to record answers instead of, or in addition to, writing. The whole-class set will be shared with multiple classes. Speaking activities can apply to any NVAC standard, but are essential to the College and Career Readiness Standards 1 and 6 (CCR1, CCR6), which focus on participation in a range of conversations, and adapting speech to a variety of contexts.
