The items I am asking for will help my students identify letter and their sounds. My students are working to produce different letter sounds correctly. They may make errors such as substituting a k sound for a g sound. This can impact their ability to be understood by peers and can also impact their ability to read and understand text. Many standards will be addressed with the items I have chosen, but phonemic awareness will be a major focus! RF.K.2, RF.1.2 Phonemic awareness - Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). In speech, we learn how to start conversations, which topics are appropriate, and what to do in different social situations. The items I have chosen will help students participate in discussions. They will learn through play as well as structured lessons. This will help them develop social skills and maintain their mental health by connecting with others, both inside and outside the speech therapy room. SL.K.1, SL.K.2, SL.1.1, SL.1.2, Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about kindergarten topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups. My students, like most students, missed out on core instruction over the last two years. These items will help me engage with my students and get them excited to get back on track with speech. Many of my students are kindergarteners or first graders who learn better through play. We have been using digital resources to avoid contamination. Many of the items I have asked for are easily sanitized and will help us get back to hands on learning! I will be able to use these items for many years to come, both during this pandemic and after. I appreciate your consideration in funding my project.
