As I am learning more and more about the brain and how it works, I am starting to understand how my students make connections and retain information. They do it when they are engaged in the process of learning and challenged by difficult tasks. The students at my school love to be involved in creating their activities and love to express their voices. This is especially important this year after being online for over a year where peer interaction was limited. My students want to be a part of a safe and nurturing environment. They want to be heard and appreciated.
My students need a curriculum that will nurture their curiosity, higher-level thinking, and problem-solving skills. By donating to this project, you will provide supplies for various cross-curriculum activities. For example, the students will be able to build a clay model of the mighty brain and write a research project about it. They will focus on each part of the brain and its function. The students will also write a creative biography of a thumbprint and expository writing about fingerprints. The supplies will provide opportunities for the students to express their creativity and provide constructive feedback to their peers.
I believe students learn best through hands-on activities and collaboration. If the students are engaged in the activity, they make more connections and perform better at school. I want to see my students motivated, challenged, and... happy.
In my project, I will address the Nevada Writing, Speaking, and Health Standards:
W.5.2 (expository writing), W.5.3 (narrative writing), S.L.5.1 (collaborative discussions), and 1.ME.5.1 (stress, anxiety, sadness, and depression).
