Students see themselves in books. These books teach compassion and empathy while celebrating diversity. Students may check them out and bring them home opening up conversations with their families. As the Librarian I will use these as close read alouds in the library and teachers will also have access to the books. Books can provide a new perspective to the reader opening their hearts and minds. It’s so important that students learn to appreciate and celebrate their classmate’s differences. Reading books with diverse characters help us all see how alike we really are.
