I will be implementing across curricular and grade-level standards in teaching art and humanities to students at my school. This is also the first year that I will be teaching in this position, and so, I do not have as many supplies as I would like. For art, I would like students to be able to think critically and creatively solve problems, observe and interpret the world and our environment, recognize the visual arts as a vehicle for the expression of ideas (KC.2-5C.2, KH.2-5H.2, KA.1-5A.1, KP.3-5P.3). I would also be incorporating citizenship and understanding of social issues, cultures, and holidays (SS.K.10-SS.5.8, SS.K.11-SS.5.9, and SS.K.12-SS.5.10). In addition, we will be covering the elements of art like shapes, color, lines, texture, value, pattern, and space. Students will actively create works of art as well as critiquing and researching famous artists. We will often be connecting literature to art. I also have a counseling background and will incorporate many character education lessons about self esteem, friendship, teamwork and perseverance. Many of these lessons require group work, discourse, presentation and critiquing others. (NEPF 3, Indicator 1-4) Because I service the entire school, the requested supplies would be greatly appreciated.
